The Someone Like You Project was founded in September 2024 by Josiah Daniel Smith, an author and professional filmmaker based in Minnesota. It began with the realization that many of the high-impact ministries and businesses we see every day were started from scratch by ordinary people. This ignited a passion to share their stories and encourage others with the truth that God can use anyone to start something incredible.

What followed was an eight-month process of prayerfully seeking out these individuals and conducting video interviews across the Twin Cities. These interactions revealed powerful and dramatic stories of God’s faithfulness in the lives of those who saw a need, felt a call, and took action. Investing thousands of hours of work, the crew from Motion Worship captured these interviews with film-quality gear and production value.
the results
As of now, Someone Like You has taken the form of a narrative-driven book, a free small group video series, a sermon series (in production), and a web-based video series with the potential for even more applications as time goes on. Our vision is to travel the country discovering and sharing more stories of fantastic ministries and the people who founded them.
